Bhubaneswar: A depression over the Malacca Strait on Tuesday strengthened into a deep depression and is expected to evolve into a cyclonic circulation later today as it moves towards the west-northwest on Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system is gaining strength as it moves over the central Bay, but its landfall trajectory remains uncertain, say meteorologists.
Separately, a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Sri Lanka. It’s expected to move northwestwards, becoming a well-marked low-pressure area. The IMD, meanwhile, predicted it could turn into a depression by November 27.
Under its influence, temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next two days, potentially leading to colder nights in some areas.
