Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal has moved northeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST on Monday over the same region, near latitude 17.0°N and longitude 86.8°E, about 360 km south of Paradip in Odisha, 510 km south-southwest of Digha in West Bengal and 660 km south-southwest of Khepupara in Bangladesh.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next six hours. Subsequently, it is very likely to move nearly north-northeastwards and cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the evening of October 25 as a deep depression.
The possible cyclone over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring moderate rainfall in several coastal districts of Odisha. According to the IMD prediction, light to moderate rainfall at a few places is likely on Monday and at many places on October 24 and 25 in the coastal districts of Odisha.
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely from Monday evening to Tuesday along and off the Odisha coast under the influence of the cyclonic storm. The squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to begin along and off West Bengal, Bangladesh, and north Myanmar coasts from Tuesday morning. It would gradually increase becoming 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph along and off the Bangladesh coast, 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph along and off the north Myanmar coast, and 45-55kmph gusting to 65 along and off the west Bengal coast on October 25.
The IMD has issued Danger Code 3 for all seaports of the state – Gopalpur, Puri (signal port), Paradip and Dhamra.
