Deep Depression To Bring Heavy Rain In 9 States

Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over north interior Odisha moved further west-northwestwards and lay centered over north interior Odisha & adjoining north Chhattisgarh about 50 km west-northwest of Jharsuguda (Odisha) and about 130 km south-southeast of Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) today morning.

The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across north Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours. It is very likely to weaken into a Depression during the next 06 hours.

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, south Gujarat Region & Saurashtra and heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Konkan, north Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidharbha, East Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal today i.e. September 14.

Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy & extremely heavy falls at isolated places is very likely over Gujarat State & West Madhya Pradesh; very heavy rainfall at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh & East Rajasthan and heavy rainfall at isolated places over north Konkan on September 15.

Further, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Gujarat State, east Rajasthan & West Madhya Pradesh; heavy rainfall at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh and north Konkan on September 16.

A. Impact Expected

  • Localized Flooding of roads, inundation and water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas of the above region.
  • Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.
  • Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
  • Minor damage to kutcha roads. Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure.
  • Localized Landslides/Mudslides
  • Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation and strong winds.

  • Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
