Bhubaneswar: Spokesperson of ruling Biju Janta Dal (BJD) and a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Odisha, Dr Sasmit Patra demanded a thorough investigation regarding collapse of an under-construction link building of the Bhubaneswar Airport.
Expressing his sadness at this incident he said, “Our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We demand that the deceased’s family is adequately compensated and proper treatment is given to the injured free of cost. We demand a thorough investigation and strict and exemplary action against those responsible for this incident.”
He added that his party and its members do not endorse politicizing human tragedies and accidents like the one that happened at the Bhubaneswar airport.
Reiterating Patra, senior Congress leader and MLA Suresh Kumar Routray said, “I demand a CBI inquiry in this matter. Adequate compensation must be provided to the deceased’s family and proper treatment to the injured. This is a serious matter and we must not let it go easily.”
“The contract was given by the Central Government. State Government was in no way involved,” added Routray.
Yesterday late night an under-construction link building connecting Terminal 1 and 2 of the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPAI) here collapsed on two construction workers. While one of them succumbed to his injuries, another bore critical injuries. Several others had minor injuries in the fateful accident. The unfortunate incident that shook the Capital drew sharp criticism.
