Cuttack: The Inspector-in-Charge of Cantonment police station Dinakrushna Mishra has been transferred to DCP office after a video in which a police official is demanding money as commission surfaced today.
In the purported video, the police official is seen interacting with a couple of persons who are requesting him to reduce the bribe amount. The duo are reportedly leaseholders of a motorcycle stand meant for the public.
The leaseholders are pleading the cop to reduce the bribe amount to Rs 30,000, but the latter insists on Rs 40,000, and shows no intent to budge. In the process of negotiation, the police official hurls abuses and threatens the duo of action with false cases.
The video was taken up by BJP Mahila Morcha leaders who convened a presser here today and demanded action against the erring cop, who they said was extorting money from petty traders and leaseholders by threatening them with police action.
The Commissionerate of Police acted on the matter today evening and removed Mishra to the DCP Office. A senior police official said that action will be initiated in this matter following a detailed inquiry.
