Bhubaneswar: Demolition of extended structures is being carried out at the official residence of former BJD MLA and the party’s organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Some private labourers were engaged in the demolition activities.
Das had reportedly built a three-storey building, a steel shed, rooftop cottage, tree house, swimming pool on the premises of his government quarters. According to sources, the government had provided Rs 9 lakh for the additional construction.
Three senior officers of the General Administration department today inspected the demolition site. “The steel structure has been demolished. We will assess the damage after he handed over the quarters. If any deviation is found, we will penalise him,” said an officer.
The main building is intact. Two other structures built on the premises are being demolished. Official records will be verified to ascertain whether due permission had been obtained for additional construction on the premises. Appropriate action will be initiated in case the construction was done without government consent, the official added.
On the other hand, the BJD leader said “A temporary structure was built in the official residence which is now being dismantled. I had constructed the temporary structure in order to accommodate the guests, party leaders and people coming with grievances. It is very unfortunate that a section of media is running misleading news on that. I need to hand over the quarters to government in the same condition in which it was allotted,” Das said in his reaction.
The demolition activity started after the process of handing over the government quarters begun following the formation of new government.
The gneral administration department had allotted him the quarters situated at Unit 6 area in 2019 while he was the MLA from Jajpur.
