Bhubaneswar: Former minister Debasis Nayak, who recently joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after quitting Biju Janata Dal (BJD), joined hands with Congress on Saturday.
Nayak took this decision to join Congress after his hope of getting a ticket for the upcoming elections from the saffron party was shattered.
Nayak joined the Indian National Congress in the presence of Odisha Pradesh Congress in-charge Ajoy Kumar and former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik at a function in Bhubaneswar.
On Friday, Nayak has announced that he will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in the state as an Independent candidate from the Bari constituency in Jajpur district.
After the BJP announced its fifth list of MLA candidates on Thursday, Nayak made this announcement on his social media handle. The BJP has nominated Umesh Jena for the Bari constituency.
Upset over not being made the party candidate from Bari, Nayak has decided to quit the saffron party and contest the elections as an Independent.
