Bhubaneswar: Former captain of Indian hockey team Prabodh Tirkey resigned from the Congress after the party denied him a ticket for Assembly polls.
He was an aspirant from Talsara Assembly constituency.
Prabodh resigned from primary membership of the party by sending his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak.
“I feel deprived from the unfortunate decision taken by the grand old Congress party of India,” Prabodh wrote in his letter to the OPCC president.
No leaders from the party gave any valid reason for cancelling my ticket. It was a humiliation, he said.
Prabodh made debut in politics by joining the Congress in September last year. The Congress had announced his name as a candidate for the Assembly election. Later, he was denied a ticket and Devendra Bhitaria was fielded in his place.
