Bhubaneswar: While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted foggy weather condition to prevail over Odisha besides dry weather, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has also issued advisory for controlled plying of vehicles due to the dense fog forecast in a bid to avoid road accidents due to very low visibility on the highways.
As per the IMD Mid Day Weather Bulletin released this afternoon, yellow warning of dense fog has been issued for the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Jajpur.
The bulletin also stated that the highest maximum temperature of 31.0 degree Centigrade was recorded at Sundargarh and the lowest minimum temperature of 10.0 degree Centigrade was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.
Releasing a video message this afternoon, IMD’s Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director H.R. Biswas said, “In the last 24 hours, dry weather prevailed in all the districts of Odisha. Shallow to moderate fog has been reported from Malkangiri and Puri districts.”
He added, “At present the temperature has increased a bit. In most of the places in coastal Odisha, the minimum temperature has been around 18-20 degree Centigrade while in the districts of interior Odisha it has been within the range of 13-15 degree Centigrade. The lowest minimum temperature recorded is 11.5 degree Centigrade. In almost of the places, the minimum temperature was 2-3 degree above normal.”
Informing on the weather forecast for the next five days, the weatherman said, “Dry weather to prevail for the next five days. From tomorrow the north-westerly dry wind is likely to penetrate into Odisha. Due to this, temperature to fall 3-4 degree in interior Odisha while in the coastal parts 2-3 degree Centigrade.”
He added, “From January 24, the temperature will gradually increase as there are chances of change in the wind pattern around January 25. There are chances of easterly wind entering Odisha.”
The weather expert further informed, “Today’s morning minimum temperature recorded at Bhubaneswar city was 18.6 degree Centigrade. That was above normal. There will be clear sky in Bhubaneswar city but there are chances of shallow to moderate fog during the morning hours. Tomorrow the minimum temperature is likely to be near 19 degree Centigrade in Bhubaneswar city.”
On the fog condition forecast, the Met Director informed, “There are chances of dense fog in the next 24 hours, mainly in north coastal Odisha districts. Dense fog likely at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Khurda and Puri districts while in almost all the coastal Odisha districts shallow to moderate fog is likely. The districts under this spell would be Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Koraput, Malkangiri, etc.”
