Bhubaneswar: A thick blanket of fog covered several areas of Odisha on Thursday morning reducing visibility to 50 meters. While the mercury has been gradually across the state since Wednesday, dense fog has made life difficult for commuters. A Laxmi bus overturned in Cuttack this morning injuring 12 people owing to poor visibility.
According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, while shallow to dense fog will occur in south Odisha, north Odisha districts may experience light rain/thundershowers. The weather office has forecast light to moderate rains in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj in north Odisha under the influence of western disturbances in the state.
Rain is also expected in some places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Keonjhar districts on Friday.
The IMD forecast a change in weather in Odisha on February 3. The weather will remain mainly dry in most of the districts. On the other hand, light to moderate fog will be experienced in some districts of south Odisha in the next 24 hours due to the high amount of water vapour in the atmosphere.
Light fog will also occur in Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nayagarh.
