Jajpur: Police on Thursday arrested three persons including a dentist on charges of trading brown sugar in Jajpur.
The contraband items of 25.2 gram worth Rs 2.5 lakh and four mobile phones were seized from them, SDPO Satyabrat Lenka informed at a press meet.
On a tip-off, police had carried out a secret operation during which they knew about the contraband trade.
“We were tipped off about the brown sugar trade in the town. As per the direction of the SP, we formed a team led by Jajpur town police station IIC Bilwamangal Sehti and launched a secret operation. During the investigation, we got to know that two youths named Sandip Kumar Mallik and Rakshakar Dikshit kept brown sugar.”
During interrogation, police knew that a dentist named Nigamananda Khatua, who runs a clinic in the town, supplied the drugs. He was also arrested. He had been acting as a drug peddler for long besides running his dental clinic at Mahaveer Nagar in the town, Lenka said.
Khatua had been practicing in the town after completing his degree from IMS-Sum Hospital, the SDPO said.
Further investigation is underway.
