Bhubaneswar: A depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 24 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department.
According to the latest IMD update, the system crossed the south Odisha coast near Gopalpur around 4:30 am today and is currently centered over south coastal Odisha.
The depression is currently centered near latitude 19.3°N and longitude 84.8°E. In terms of geographical location, it is situated about 10 km west-northwest of Gopalpur. Additionally, it is approximately 120 km west-southwest of Puri, about 40 km south-southeast of Phulbani and 180 km east-southeast of Bhawanipatna.
The depression moved nearly westwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past six hours. As it continues to move westwards across south Odisha and Chhattisgarh, it is likely to bring heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds to several districts in the region.
