Depression Over Bay Of Bengal To Intensify Into Cyclone By Today Evening: IMD
Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into depression and by today evening will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm and a severe cyclonic storm in next 24 hours.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) made the aforementioned predictions in the morning bulletin. It said that the cyclonic storm is very likely to move north-northwestwards initially till May 17 and then re-curve north-northeastwards across the northwest Bay of Bengal towards West Bengal coast during to May 18-20 2020.
Coastal Odisha is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with heavy falls at isolated places from the evening of May 18 and heavy to very heavy rainfalls at a few places on May 19 and isolated heavy rainfall over northern Odisha coast on May 20 2020.
Coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with heavy falls at a few places on May 19 and heavy to very heavy falls at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal on May 20.
Squally wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely along and off Odisha coast from the morning of May 19 and along and off West Bengal coast from the afternoon of May 19. The wind speed will gradually increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 65 to 75 kmph from the morning of May 20 along and off north Odisha and West Bengal coast. It will gradually increase thereafter.
Sea condition will be rough to very rough over the south and adjoining the central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea till the afternoon of May 16. It will be high over southwest and adjoining the central Bay of Bengal from the evening of May 16, very high over the same region from the morning of May 17. It will become phenomenal over southern parts of central Bay of Bengal on May 18, over northern parts of central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on May 19 and over north Bay of Bengal on May 20, 2020.
The fisherfolk have been advised not to venture into the South Bay of Bengal from May 16-17 to central Bay of Bengal May 17-18 and north Bay of Bengal during May 19-20 2020. Also, they have been urged to not to venture into north Bay of Bengal along and off North Odisha, West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast during May 18-20 2020.
