Bhubaneswar: Due to the impact of the Depression over Bay of Bengal, 10 districts of the State will witness very heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours. The IMD has issued an orange warning for Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Jajpur in this regard.
Similarly, a yellow warning (heavy rainfall – 7 to 11 cms) has been issued for Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Sonepur, Deogarh, Boudh, Malkangiri and Koraput districts.
“Yesterday’s Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts moved west-northwestwards and concentrated into a Depression today morning over south coastal Odisha and neighbourhood, which further moved west northwestwards with a speed of 25 kmph during past 3 hours and lay centered at 8:30 am on Sunday,” the IMD bulletin read.
The system lies about 80 km east-southeast of Bhawanipatna (Odisha), 110 km west-northwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), 210 km east-northeast of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh) and 260 km east-southeast of Kanker (Chhattisgarh), at 1 pm today. It is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh during next 24 hours and weaken gradually, the IMD stated.
