“A low pressure area has been formed in early morning today, the 9th August, over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal. Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal,the system is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours,” said Sarat Sahu, Director, Met Department.
“During the next 24 hours, rain or thunder shower is very likely to occur at most places over North Odisha and many places over South Odisha,” he added.
The Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga catchment area would recieve very heavy rainfall.Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over districts of North Odisha.
In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall recorded is 114.3mm in Chandbali.
“From June 1st until now, Odisha has received 9 percent less rainfall. But that deficit will be made up by the upcoming rainfall,” said the Met official.
Gusty surface wind with speed reaching 45 to 50 kmph gusting 60 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha coast.
Sea condition would be rough to very rough in Odisha coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea in Odisha Coast.
