Bargarh: In a serious breach of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s security, a miscreant hurled two chappals onto dais while the latter was addressing a rally at Kumbhari village in Barpali on Tuesday. The incident occurred while Naveen was about to end his public address and preparing to alight from the podium.

According to eye-witnesses account, two shoes were hurled at the Chief Minister in succession one to his left and the other to his right side. Both the hits were prevented from reaching Naveen who was well protected by his personal security officers (PSOs).

“The incident is highly condemnable. There was a huge congregation of at least 5,000 persons to hear the popular Chief Minister speaking at the rally. The miscreant reportedly seated in one of the front rows, hurled two shoes in quick succession,” an eye witness said.

As per police, the youth has been identified as Kartik Meher of Padampur. A BJP flag and a mobile phone have been seized from his pocket.

After the incident, he was assaulted by the public and is reported to be unconscious. Local police have registered a case and investigating into the matter. So far, political affiliation of Kartik is yet to be verified.

After being arrested and taken to police custody, miscreant Kartik Meher in his reactions said, “There are three persons who instigated me. They may be from BJP, BJD, Congress orAam Admi party. Why should I reveal their identities? I don’t support any party. Why should the leaders come over here for addressing the public? Public will choose easily and vote. I want to know the strength of police force.”

Later he has been admitted to the hospital after being injured in the scuffle.
