Bhubaneswar: While the day temperatures dropped slightly in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack following overnight rain due to the influence of Nor’wester, most regions of Odisha are predicted to reel under a heat wave for the next five days, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here said on Tuesday.
Earlier today, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued a rain and thunderstorm alert for seven districts – Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Many areas of Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Ganjam received moderate rainfall today morning bringing the much-needed respite from the intense heat wave conditions prevailing for nearly a month.
However, there is no respite from the soaring temperature and heat wave conditions in western Odisha. Notwithstanding this, the IMD has forecasted that the heat wave conditions will continue in most parts of the state, especially western Odisha, for another five days. An orange alert has been issued for intense heat waves in six districts – Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, and Boudh districts for today.
According to the MeT, the day temperature (maximum temperature) in these places will be 4°C-6°C above normal on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the weather office has issued a yellow alert for a heat wave in another 14 districts – Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kalahandi, and Jajpur.
The weather will cause discomfort and people have been advised not to go into the sun unless necessary.
