Bhubaneswar: A devastating incident occurred during the Rath Yatra celebrations in Shikula village under Purushottampur police station in Ganjam district. A 30-year-old man, Shivram Behera, lost his life after being crushed under a chariot wheel.
According to eyewitnesses, the chariot pulling ceremony began in Shikula this afternoon, attracting a large gathering of devotees. Shivram, amidst the crowd, accidentally fell down while the chariot was in motion, and the wheel ran over him.
Villagers rushed him to Purushottampur Hospital in critical condition, later shifting him to Berhampur MKCG Medical College due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, Shivram succumbed to his injuries en route.
The police have taken custody of the body and initiated an investigation into the incident.
