Bhubaneswar: The Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Kumar Sarangi today held a preparatory meeting on the security arrangement ahead of the world-famous Rath Yatra.
The DGP met the senior police officers at the police headquarters in Cuttack and directed them to be proactive and step up vigil for the mega religious event in Puri.
Sarangi directed the officers to remain extra alert as this year Rath Yatra will witness the visit of various VVIPs including President Droupadi Murmu, Governor Raghubar Das, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Among the key rituals of Lord Jagannath and his siblings, Rath Yatra, Netra Utsav, Naba Jouban Darshan will be held on July 7 while Bahuda Yatra will be on July 15, Suna Besha on July 17 and Niladri Bije on July 19.
The meeting featured the security arrangements for the festival. A press release issued by the police headquarters stated that senior officers would be engaged in special activity besides a full proof security. Bomb disposal squads, HHMD, DMFD, Metal detectors, and counter intelligence squads will be mobilised. Special arrangements will be made for the security of VVIPs. CCTV cameras will be installed at all strategic points in the town. Patrolling will be stepped up on the beach. Road divider, delineator and traffic zones arrangements will be made for smooth vehicular traffic.
Temporary police outposts will be set up in the town for the pilgrims.
