Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania chaired a meeting of the State Railway Security Committee at the DG camp office in Bhubaneswar to review security measures in trains and railway stations, particularly ahead of the Rath Yatra.
The meeting was attended by the Additional DG of Police, Railways & Coastal Security, Arun Bothra, East Coast Railway IG Alok Bora, South East Railway IG Sanjay Mishra, and senior officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The discussion focused on measures to check crimes in trains, gun smuggling through trains, and security-related issues. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring the safety and security of railway passengers during the Rath Yatra, with Puri railway station being a major point of focus.
DGP Khurania highlighted the importance of CCTV surveillance, anti-sabotage measures, and crowd management at railway stations during the festival. The meeting deliberated on the role of Odisha Police and RPF in maintaining railway security and discussed strategies for smooth and safe travel during the Rath Yatra.
At various times, criminals are smuggling drugs like ganja and opium through trains. The DGP ordered to take appropriate steps by identifying the stations where such drugs are being transported and the stations where they are being transported. He also emphasized on installing CCTV at the stations in the state where there is no CCTV. The DGP also emphasized on increasing the duration of the CCTVs.

The railway line passes through various Maoist-affected districts of the state. In the future, Maoists are likely to target this railway line as well. In view of this, he directed the RPF and GRP to take immediate steps in coordination.
Many a times, incidents of throwing stones at moving trains are seen at some places. It was discussed in the meeting to identify the people involved in such incidents and take action against them.
In addition, there was a discussion about providing training to GRP police officers by cyber experts on combating cyber crime.
Khurania said that the discussions were held in a positive frame of mind, with all stakeholders agreeing to work together to enhance railway security. The meeting was attended by officials from East Coast Railways, South East Railway, South Central Railway, and other security agencies.
