Malkangiri: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania is on his first visit to Malkangiri since assuming office.

Accompanied by DIG Operations Akhileshwar Singh and DIG (SIW) Kanwar Vishal Singh, DGP Khurania reviewed ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the district, emphasizing a target set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to eliminate Maoist presence nationwide by March 2026.

During his two-day visit, which includes Malkangiri and Koraput districts, the DGP while speaking to reporters in Malkangiri highlighted that ganja (cannabis) cultivation in Odisha was previously promoted by Maoist groups. With the reduced Maoist presence, ganja trafficking has also declined, he noted.

DGP Khurania arrived in Malkangiri on Thursday morning following a visit to the Gurasetu BSF camp in Swabhiman Anchal.

He conducted a review meeting with senior officers from the police and BSF, stressing that eliminating Maoist influence is his primary goal. Khurania also stated that efforts are underway to locate and retrieve weapons hidden by Maoists across various sites, underscoring the commitment to secure peace and safety for the people in the area.

After spending the night in Malkangiri, the DGP will proceed to Koraput for a further operational review, before returning to Bhubaneswar tomorrow.
