Bhubaneswar: With several major festivals, including Eid-ul-Fitr (March 31), Sri Ram Navami (April 6), Hanuman Jayanti (April 14), and Maha Vishuba Sankranti, approaching, the Odisha Police has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of the public during these celebrations. A review meeting was held at the State Police Headquarters under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania to discuss and finalize security arrangements.
During the virtual meeting, DGP Khurania directed senior officials to ensure the smooth and organized observance of these festivals. He emphasized the need for extensive security measures, maintaining constant vigilance, and taking preemptive steps to prevent any untoward incidents. Special attention was given to monitoring social media platforms for rumors and misleading information, with DGP Khurania advising 24/7 patrolling by cyber cells across various districts.
The police will enhance surveillance by installing CCTV cameras, including AI-enabled cameras, in sensitive areas. Community engagement initiatives, such as the formation of peace committees and meetings with local representatives and community groups, will be undertaken to foster harmony. Intensified police patrolling, strict checking at sensitive locations, and monitoring of processions will also be implemented.
The State Crime Branch will organize special workshops to train police officers and personnel for effective deployment. Special security arrangements will be made for foot processions and bike rallies, along with measures to identify and act against habitual offenders and rumor-mongers. DGP Khurania also stressed the importance of maintaining a high level of preparedness to handle any adverse situations.
Given the likelihood of rising temperatures during the festivals, DGP Khurania instructed officials to ensure the well-being of both the public and police personnel on duty.
The meeting was attended by Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Vinaytosh Mishra, Additional Director General of Police (Modernization) Saumendra Priyadarshi, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (HRPC) Yatindra Koyal, DIGP (Provisioning) Charan Singh Meena, DIGP (Personnel) Jugal Kishore Kumar Banoth, DCP (Cuttack) Khilari Rishikesh Dyandeo and many senior police officers who were present through virtual mode.
