Sambalpur: One of the main accused involved in the Dhanupali firing case has been apprehended and forwarded to court today.
While the arrested person has been identified as Sk. Wasim of Motijharan in the city here, his brother Sk. Samad is still at large. A manhunt has been launched to nab absconding Samad.
As per a press note by the District Police Office (DPO), then firing incident took place on October 7 night around 11.30 pm. The accused brother duo Samad and Wasim barged into the house of Abdul Muzib of the same locality and fired two rounds to kill Muzib as well as his mother. Luckily, the bullets did not hit any one of them.
Wasim also attacked Muzib’s younger brother Abdul Latif by sharp weapon causing injury to him.
Soon after committing the crime, the accused duo (also involved in a series of cases) fled the spot evading arrest. Police formed special teams and raids were conducted at different places. Consequently, Wasim was apprehended last night with the seizure of weapon of offence.
The press note added that a special anti-crime drive has been launched in the city and adjacent places to apprehend the anti-social elements, drug peddlers as well as active MO criminals in view of the ensuing festive season.
During the drive, 21 dacoits have fallen into the dragnet while they were attempting to commit crime. In this connection, five cog cases have been registered at different police stations in the city.
