Jajpur: Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahu was attacked by a group of miscreants at Budhapola in Jajpur district on Wednesday evening.
According to MLA Sahu, the attackers were supporters of Pranab Prakash Das, alias Bobby. The incident allegedly occurred near Jajpur Budhapole while the legislator was on his way to the DDM office for a meeting.
MLA Sahu said that some individuals staged a road blockade near Budhapola, forcing his vehicle to stop. The attackers then rushed towards him, armed with sticks and iron rods, and assaulted his vehicle. Upon seeing MLA Sahu inside the vehicle, the attackers rushed towards him, beating him and snatching his chain. The attackers allegedly chanted “Bobby Bhai Zindabad” during the assault, Sahu said.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area, with BJP workers and supporters gathering at the scene. They surrounded MLA Sahu’s vehicle, refusing to leave the place until the attackers are arrested. Police were present at the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
Jajpur SP Yashpratap Shrimal rushed to the scene and ordered a probe into the incident.
“We have constituted three special teams to arrest the miscreants who attacked the MLA. We are examining the camera footage. We have adopted zero tolerance policy towards any kind of violence in the district,” Jajpur SP Yashpratap Shrimal said.
Meanwhile, BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das also reacted to the allegation of the Dharmasala MLA. “I sincerely condemned the violence and attack on the MLA. I also spoke to the senior police officials, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. Neither I nor my party believe in any kind of violence. I will fully cooperate with the police in the investigation,” Das said.
