Dhenkanal: In a major breakthrough, the Kamakhyanagar Excise team has seized brown sugar worth Rs 60 lakh and arrested two persons in connection with the illicit trade.
According to sources, the excise sleuths conducted a raid at a rented house in Mundideuli Sahi under Kamakhyanagar police limits based on a tip-off. The team seized the contraband and arrested the mother-son duo identified as Mamata Sahu and her son Akash Sahu. However, Bikash, another son of Mamata Sahu, managed to escape from the scene by jumping over the wall, taking with him brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore.
The accused, identified as residents of Galu village under Kamakhyan police station, were reportedly involved in the brown sugar trade.
The excise team is investigating the matter further to uncover more details about the illicit trade.
