Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested the head clerk of Dhenkanal Law College Uttam Kumar Rout for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,500 from an ex-student (complainant) to deliver his Law Degree (LLB) certificate.
The accused had earlier demanded Rs 10,000, however, he later agreed to issue the certificate on payment of a bribe of Rs 8,500.
Based on the complaint of the ex-student, Vigilance officials laid a trap today and caught Rout while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,500 from the complainant inside the premises of Dhenkanal Law College, said an official press release.
The anti-graft agency officials recovered the entire bribe money from possession of Rout in the presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on Rout’s house at Station Bazar in Dhenkanal Town and his office room.
Vigilance has registered a case against Rout under section 7 of the PC Amendment Act of 2018 and he has been arrested.
