Dhenkanal: A young man was allegedly shot and stoned to death near Gopal Sagar School in Dhenkanal district on Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Maheshwar Behera alias Titan of Karigarasahi, was reportedly fired at and then brutally beaten by miscreants, resulting in his death.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 9 pm when Titan was returning home on his bike.

Titan was shot in the leg, causing him to fall from his vehicle. His wife, who was inside their house, heard the gunfire and rushed out to find him wounded and trying to escape. However, the attackers then dragged him to a nearby location, where they allegedly beat him to death with stones before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition at 11 pm. However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The victim’s wife has alleged that the murder was a result of a long-standing dispute.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Inspector-In-Charge leading the probe.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and tension in the city, with locals expressing concern over the growing presence of anti-social elements.
