Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved the extension of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), popularly known as the DIAL-112 scheme, for another five years from 2025-26 to 2029-30. The scheme has been sanctioned with a total budget allocation of Rs 2,260.89 crore.
The ERSS is a unified emergency response system that integrates Police, Ambulance, and Fire services under a single helpline number — 112. The initiative aims to ensure quick and coordinated action to assist citizens during emergencies.
As part of the extension plan, the government has approved the creation of 4,195 new posts in various ranks to strengthen the emergency response workforce. Additionally, 645 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) will be deployed across the state to improve mobility and response time.
The Cabinet also cleared the construction of dedicated buildings for the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and the Mirror Emergency Response Centre (MERC). These centres will function round-the-clock and be built to withstand disasters, ensuring uninterrupted emergency services.
The continuation of the DIAL-112 scheme marks Odisha’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety infrastructure and delivering prompt assistance to citizens in distress.
