Bhubaneswar: Diarrhoea outbreak has claimed three lives at Damapur village under T. Gobindpur panchayat under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district.
The deceased are Sambaru Mallick (64), Kandara Mallick (62), and Sukri Mallick.
According to reports, Sambaru and Kandara were undergoing treatment for diarrhoea since Saturday. Their conditions worsened on Tuesday and subsequently, both of them died. Sukri was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition but succumbed on Tuesday.
The outbreak has sent shockwaves through the village, prompting local authorities to spring into action.
Upon receiving information about the outbreak, a medical team was dispatched to the affected area. The villagers are being distributed Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets and advised to drink boiled water to contain the spread of the disease.
The medical team from Adapada Community Health Centre visited Dampur to assess the situation and found that the outbreak may be linked to the consumption of bamboo shoots and wild mushrooms, along with irregularities in food and drink habits.
