Berhampur: The Inspector-in-Charge of Gangapur police station Deb Kumar Gamanga was killed in an incident of firing on Friday. While preliminary reports revealed that Gamanga was in some sort of pressure or facing psychological issues, it is becoming clearer, that the incident was most likely ‘sucidal’.
This news portal is in possession of a video in which a cop has shared the events on the fateful day. According to him, there were three police officials inside Gamanga’s official quarter and three constables outside when the fatal incident occurred.
Gamanga had hidden his service revolver in the trouser pocket and shot himself in the abdomen, all of a sudden when he was having a discussion with the colleagues, the police personnel said.
He added, “The officers present at the spot were trying their best to persuade the IIC for depositing the gun at police station and go on leave. But he (Gamanga) would not listen. The officials were shocked to see Gamanga lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but it was too late.”
According to the police personnel, prior to the incident, Gamanga had spoken to his wife for a few seconds. “She asked a police personnel to take care of the IIC as he was undergoing treatment at Vizag (very likely for mental issues). It was a very unfortunate incident in which we lost a nice officer,” he added.
