Differently-Abled Seek 3% Job Reservation As Per SC Directions

**Bhubaneswar:** Around 30-40 members of the Odisha Bikalanga Mancha (Forum of differently-abled) staged a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Monday protesting against the callous attitude of the State Government towards them.

Notably, on October 8, 2013, the Supreme Court has strongly directed to both the Central and all the State governments to reserve 3% jobs for the differently-abled persons in all the government institutions and departments.

The apex court had also made very clear that this ruling had to be followed within three months of the order.

But three years have passed and the State Government is yet to wake up in this respect. There have been no recruitments in 36 departments out of 39 departments of the State Government, the protestors alleged.

Again on June 26, 2016, the Supreme Court directed all the state governments for the recruitment and promotion of the differently-abled persons in various institutions.

But the Odisha Government has turned a deaf ear to this order, alleged the members of the Mancha.

“The Central Government had passed a resolution in 1996 to this effect that there will be 3% reservations for the differently-abled persons in all the government institutions, but 20 years have passed and Odisha Government is not taking any steps in this direction. There will be strong reactions from us if this provision is not implemented,” said Sanyasi Das, President of the Odisha Bikalanga Mancha.
