Bhubaneswar: The driver of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus that collided with a private bus carrying people from a marriage party in the wee hours of Monday near Digapahandi in Odisha’s Ganjam district was arrested on Tuesday. The driver, identified as Manas Pradhan, had fled the scene after the accident that killed 12 passengers and injured several others.
According to reports, Pradhan surrendered at Bharatpur police station here on Monday. Later, a police team from Digapahandi took him into custody. He was reportedly taken to the accident spot after his arrest.
Twelve passengers of the private bus, including seven members of a family, were killed in the accident near Khemundi College of Digapahandi block. People in the private minibus were returning from a marriage ceremony in Berhampur. The injured have been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital and Digapahandi Hospital where the condition of the two injured was stated to be critical. Later, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Passengers of the OSRTC bus escaped with minor injuries.
