Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spearheading a landmark aviation initiative aimed at enhancing international connectivity.

Beginning June 2025, Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar will commence direct flights to Abu Dhabi under the Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative. This move is part of the government’s transformative New Destination Policy.

In a post shared from the official X handle (formerly Twitter) of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the initiative was hailed as a significant step towards positioning Odisha on the global map. It is expected to boost tourism, trade, and international engagement, contributing to the vision of a Viksit Odisha.

“From Temple City to Global Gateway! Thanks to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi for steering this landmark aviation push. From June 2025, #Bhubaneswar will take flight to Abu Dhabi under the #BMAAN initiative—powered by the transformative #NewDestinationPolicy. A major stride toward connecting #Odisha with the world—boosting tourism, trade, and global prospects for a #ViksitOdisha,” the CMO’s post read.

IndiGo will operate the flight three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The exact commencement date for flights between the two major cities will be announced soon.

The introduction of international flights under this initiative reflects the state government’s continued efforts to improve Odisha’s connectivity and promote it as an emerging hub for global business and cultural exchange.
