Bhubaneswar: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday reviewed response activities taken in view of deep depression over Bay of Bengal in presence of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Additional DG Sanjay Kumar and other senior officers.
After the review, the minister said that all the 30 districts of the state received heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours. Maximum rainfall was recorded in Malkangiri district, while Koraput is also affected by heavy downpour.
All District Magistrates have been directed to remain alert for any eventuality arising out of the heavy rainfall. Six ODRF teams and five Fire Services teams have been deployed in Malkangiri district. While roads were affected due to flood water, no one died despite the rain. As many as 80 rescue boats were deployed. Choppers were also kept ready for rescue operations.
More than people have been evacuated in Malkangiri district and accommodated in relief shelters. They will stay there until the water recedes completely.
The state government is coordinating the situation with the district and block administrations and the Chief Minister is monitoring the situation. The situation is under complete control. One person was injured due to the landslide.
Meanwhile, the depression over interior Odisha moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 22 kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 0530 hours on Tuesday over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining interior Odisha, about 90 km west-southwest of Jharsuguda and 70 km west-northwest of Sambalpur.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Chhattisgarh and weaken into a well marked low-pressure area over Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh around Tuesday evening.
