Bhubaneswar: Calculation of income, expenditure and assets and further enquiry by the Vigilance has revealed that the assets of the arrested Private Secretary to Member Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) Biranchi Narayan Sahoo is a whopping 268 per cent of his known sources of income, said an official press release.
Vigilance’s revised estimates has assessed Sahoo’s assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs 3,51,51,921.
Sahoo who was arrested today was sent to jail upon rejection of his bail plea by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Earlier in the day, as Sahoo was found in possession of disproportionate assets which he could not account for satisfactorily, the Vigilance registered a case against him under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
He was arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Three teams of Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division comprising four DSPs, 13 Inspectors, and other staff conducted simultaneous house searches starting on Friday and unearthed two double-storeyed buildings at Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar; two single-storeyed buildings at Bhakti Vihar, Bhubaneswar and Godibandha in Cuttack district; 14 plots in Bhubaneswar, Khordha and Puri.
The teams also recovered one four-wheeler, two two-wheelers, insurance deposits worth over Rs 56 lakh, Rs 12 lakh in cash from Sahoo’s house, over Rs 13 lakh in cash from the house of Sahoo’s relative, gold ornaments weighing approx 1.5 Kg worth over Rs 60 lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 3.79 Crore have been unearthed during the house search till now.
Further, bank slips indicating huge cash deposits in Bank accounts have also been recovered.
Also, recruitment-related applicant admit cards and other incriminating documents have been recovered during the searches, the official release said.
