Bhubaneswar: On the eve of Diwali, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a 25 per cent hike in remuneration paid to workmen engaged on contractual basis and through outsourcing agencies engaged in various departments of the State government, said an official press release.
About 33,000 persons engaged in different departments of the Odisha government will benefit, the release added.
The State government will have to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 100 crore annually.
Statutory payments like EPF and ESI of these persons engaged on contractual basis and through outsourcing agencies shall be deposited by the concerned agencies/firms. This has to be ensured by authorities of the concerned departments where they have been working.
The Chief Minister also directed for strong action against agencies/firms neglecting deposit of such statutory payments.
That apart, the Chief Minister has directed for granting a maximum of 12 days leave annually.
Similarly, the Chief Minister has advised concerned authorities to consider and take an early decision on the provision of maternity leave to pregnant women.
