**Cuttack:** Following an FIR in the Mangalabag police station on Sunday (29 Feb) the Commissionerate Police has been allowed to conduct a DNA test of the baby girl by the court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate in Cuttack.
According to Arun Kumar Swain, IIC, Mangalabag PS, “The court has granted to conduct a DNA test of the baby girl to ascertain her parents. We have collected the blood samples and will send it to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for the test.”
The father identified as Prahlad Mohapatra had alleged that his baby boy was swapped with a baby girl which is not theirs.
“My blood group is O(+) whereas my wife’s blood group is B(-) but the child has a blood group B(+) which raised my suspicion. Moreover, they did not allow my mother in law to be with my wife. So I wanted a DNA test to be conducted. I will be clear after the DNA test,” said Prahlad Mohapatra.
According to reports, the complainant mother gave birth to a baby at Gynaecology and Obstetrics department on January 27 through Caesarean section, but neither the sex of the baby was disclosed to her nor was she allowed to see the baby. Later on she was handed over with a newborn baby girl.
This child swapping slur in Odisha’s premier health institution is reminiscent of such an allegation in 2013.
