Sambalpur: Two senior officials from the state Health and Family Welfare Department arrived today at the VSS Medical College and Hospital to inquire on a video where some doctors forced a youth to do sit-ups and beg for apology which later went viral.
The officials along with local Police spoke with the youth and his family. They inspected the relevant documents and chatted with his family as well.
The incident occurred on October 20 when a youth, accompanied by two of his associates attacked a neurosurgeon of VSS Hospital on Sunday. However, he was captured by junior doctors who started heckling him. The youth had beaten Dr Acharya Suryakanta Pattajoshi as the latter refused to go the private facility to examine his father.
Enraged by the act of attack on a senior doctor, junior doctors and residents of VSS overpowered the youth and allegedly stripped him. He was made to do sit-ups and forced to apologise. The incident grabbed eyeballs because, someone policemen were present at the scene, as shown in the viral video.
On October 22, State Health Minister Naba Kishore Das stressed that we should trust in the judicial process and let law take its own course. He had placed an order for inquiry back then. He had ordered an Additional Secretary with another member to look into the matter.
