Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is set to conduct a comprehensive dog census across the city from tomorrow. This initiative marks the first-ever dog census in the state, aiming to accurately count the stray dog population in Bhubaneswar.
The census will start from 5 am and will be conducted in two phases in each street. It will continue till September 25. The BMC has formed 410 teams, each consisting of sanitation workers, sanitation supervisors, sanitary inspectors, and other officials, who will conduct the census under the supervision of qualified veterinarians.
The main objective of this census is to reduce dog bites, prevent disease transmission, and prevent road accidents. Additionally, the aim is to determine the density of dogs in Bhubaneswar, develop a sustainable dog population management program, and reduce conflicts between humans and stray dogs.
The census data will help the BMC to create a safer environment for both humans and animals in the city. By gathering accurate information on the dog population, the corporation can implement effective measures to manage stray dogs and prevent related issues.
