Sambalpur: Once again proving the common English saying “A dog is man’s best friend” to be true, a pet dog ‘Blackie’ laid down its life to save its master from a venomous snake at Golamunda village near Burla town in Sambalpur district.
According to reports, Jay Narayan Mohapatra of Golamunda village had reared ‘Blackie’, a German shepherd as a pet.
Yesterday in the evening Blackie spotted a cobra slithering into his master’s house.
Blackie pounced on the cobra and a prolonged fight ensued. The loyal German Shepherd killed the serpent by biting it at several places but was also bitten by the latter.
By the time it came to the notice of his master’s family members the fight had almost ended, Blackie also fell down after a few minutes as the snake poison spread inside his body.
The dog sacrificed his life for his master, while Mohapatra and his family members were left teary-eyed.
