Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Forest Department will undertake a three-day dolphin census in the Bhitarkanika National Park, Gahirmatha Sanctuary, and the adjoining sea area from January 20-22.
In the river area, the census will be carried out from the Dhamara River mouth to the Devi River mouth.
Giving this information, Rajnagar DFO Sudarshan Yadav said that the dolphin census is carried out in the state every year in December. This year, it is being conducted in the third week of January. “There are five varieties of dolphins in the state and the census enables us to know their precise population every year,” he said.
The teams undertaking the census activity will be provided with cameras, advanced GPS equipment, and other equipment.
