Bhubaneswar: The grieving father of Soumyashree Bisi, the 20-year-old student of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore who succumbed to burn injuries on Monday night, has appealed to all not to politicise her death.
“The CM Sir assured me that those involved will face strict and uncompromising punishment. I trust the law, the administration, and the government. If I do not believe in the system, what remains? I have faith,” he said, his voice choked with emotion.
He acknowledged the government’s support during his daughter’s treatment, stating, “They ensured world-class medical care at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The doctors and staff were very helpful. I am thankful.”
Fighting back tears, he urged people not to exploit the tragedy for political gain.
“My daughter is no more. I request everyone, with folded hands—please do not use her for politics. Some of our demands have been met and for others, assurances have been given. I am mentally not strong, but I will continue to fight till the end for her justice,” he added.
Soumyashree had allegedly attempted self-immolation on July 12 on campus, accusing the Head of her Department Samir Kumar Sahu, of sexual harassment. She was initially rushed to Balasore Medical College and later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
