Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police have issued an advisory, urging citizens to exercise caution when sharing information on social media.
In a tweet, Odisha Police emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of news before posting it online to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain peace and harmony in the community.
In its tweet, police have also warned that legal action will be taken against individuals who spread false or misleading information that could potentially disrupt social order. Police have identified instances where certain individuals have created and disseminated fake news, leading to unrest in society.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing unverified information. They are also cautioned against believing or spreading provocative posts that could exacerbate tensions.
“Verify the authenticity of any news before posting it on social media. Refrain from sharing false and provocative posts. Those spreading false or misleading information will face strict legal action. Some individuals are creating and spreading fake news, leading to unrest in society. Citizens, stay alert and don’t believe or act on fake videos or social media posts under any circumstances”, read the tweet.
