Rayagada: Miscreants allegedly hacked Likitipadar panchayat sarpanch’s husband and her father-in-law to death over land dispute at Sarigada under Padmapur block in Rayagada district, on Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Agadhu Gamang, husband of sarpanch, and Suma Gamang, her father-in-law.
According to reports, some miscreants barged into sarpanch’s house and engaged in an altercation with Agadhu and his father in the presence of the sarpanch. They even attacked with deadly weapons. In the chaos, the sarpanch fled for her life, but her husband and father-in-law remained at home. As the dispute escalated, the miscreants hacked them before leaving the place. The bodies of the father-son duo lay in the courtyard.
Upon being informed, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Gunupur, along with Padmapur police, reached the village and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
According to preliminary investigations, the land dispute between the two parties had been ongoing for some time, which might have led to the gruesome attack. Local police have meanwhile launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused involved in the murder.
However, the exact motive behind the killing is yet to be determined. The police believe that the true cause of death will only be revealed after preliminary investigations and scientific reports are conducted.
Meanwhile, the village is gripped by fear and tension following the incident, and the police are maintaining a close watch to prevent any further escalation.
