Bhubaneswar: In a shocking turn of events, a 14-year-old boy died recently while pretending to hang himself with a saree to scare his sister during a quarrel. The tragedy deepened when his grief-stricken father took his own life just hours later, overwhelmed by the loss of his child.
The devastating incident has sent shockwaves at Lamptibahal area under Brajarajnagar police limits in Jharsuguda district.
As per reports, Rohan Singh and his sister got into a fight, following which he attempted to scare her by pretending to hang himself using their mother’s saree. Unfortunately, the mock hanging turned fatal for Rohan.
Rohan’s sister was horrified after seeing his brother in that condition and immediately informed their family members, who rushed him to Mandalia Central Hospital without delay. Unfortunately, upon arrival, the doctors pronounced Rohan dead.
Unable to bear the loss of his son, Rohan’s grief-stricken father, Jhasaketan Singh (40), committed suicide on Thursday late night by hanging self. His family members found him hanging on Friday morning.
Upon being informed, Brajarajnagar police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
“The distraught father, Jhasaketan Singh, couldn’t cope with the loss and hung himself in their home around 3 am on Thursday”, a neighbour said.
Brajrajnagar police have registered two separate cases of unnatural death. The exact circumstances surrounding the incidents will be known after the post-mortem report is received, said SI Surjan Pan.
