Bhubaneswar: Greed-driven dowry violence claims another life. Of late, a 22-year-old woman in Bhadrak district was allegedly murdered by her husband and in-laws over Rs 1 lakh dowry demand.

According to sources, Tanaya Nayak had married Ratikant Sahoo, son of Kubera Sahu, a resident of Chandbali NAC in 2021. Soon after the marriage, her husband and in-laws began harassing her for dowry. They had been insisting her to get Rs 1 lakh from her parental home.

On September 15, Tanaya’s family alleged that her in-laws killed her by strangulating her.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, police have arrested Tanaya’s husband, Ratikant, and father-in-law, Suresh Sahoo, and produced them in court. The investigation is ongoing to determine if anyone else was involved in the heinous crime.

Tanaya leaves behind a 16-month-old daughter.
