Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance on Wednesday arrested the Superintending Engineer (SE) of Drainage Division, Jajpur, Chandi Prasad Mohapatra on charges of bribery.
According to the Vigilance, Mohapatra was “caught red-handed’ inside his office while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant”.
The SE had demanded bribe to pass three months arrear bills of a hired vehicle owned by the complainant, the Vigilance stated.
The sleuths are conducting searches on property owned by Mohapatra at Patia, his office, native place Tirtol. Three teams of the Vigilance led by four DSPs as many Inspectors and other staff are carrying out the searches.
Mohapatra was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and produced in the court today. Further investigation in on.
