Bhubaneswar: Acting on a tip-off, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) personnel seized more than 808 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 61 crore from a fruit truck en route to Bhubaneswar at Krishnavaram near Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border.
The DRI also arrested three persons, including the truck driver.
According to reports, the DRI had received information that a huge quantity of cannabis was coming from Andhra Pradesh in Bhubaneswar in a truck loaded with fruits. The officials of the Directorate of Revenue were positioned on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border Sunday night.
The DRI officials tried to stop the truck and a car escorting it but when the smugglers saw the DRI personnel, they sped away. DRI officials chased the truck and the car and nabbed it at the Krishnavaram tollgate on the Andhra-Odisha border.
During the inspection of the truck and car, packets of marijuana were seized from them. Around 808.18 kg of cannabis was seized. The DRI has seized the car and the fruit truck and launched an investigation into the incident.
