Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized over 9 kg of foreign gold while being smuggled from Kolkata.
The DRI arrested two persons in this connection and seized gold biscuits and a car at Manguli toll gate in Cuttack.
Acting on a reliable source, the DRI officials laid a trap near Manguli toll gate. When the car carrying the gold arrived at the spot, the officials intercepted it. During the inspection, about 9,180 grams of gold biscuits were found inside the car. The value of the gold is estimated to be around Rs 6.5 crore.
The destination of the accused is still unclear. It will be known after the investigation, DRI said.
The accused and the seized car were taken to Bhubaneswar for further investigation.
The accused persons have been booked under Customs Act, reports said.
