Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state, Bhubaneswar Traffic Police have intensified its drive against traffic violators, especially those who jump traffic signals.
Henceforth, drivers jumping traffic signals will be penalised heavily. Their driving licenses would be suspended for three months and will also be forwarded to court.
Talking to the media, Bhubaneswar Traffic DCP PK Rout said that in the first phase, the drive against traffic violators has been launched at several places in the city, including AG Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Laxmisagar Square, and Khandagiri Square. The focus of the traffic police is on people jumping traffic red lights.
According to DCP Rout, the police will seize the vehicles of the violators, suspend the driving license of the driver, and forward them to the court. Moreover, the driving licenses of the erring drivers would be sent to the RTO with recommendations to suspend them for three months as per the law.
It may be noted that the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police have been conducting awareness programmes on traffic rules and penalising the violators. They collected Rs 186.04 crore from drivers violating traffic rules between 2020 and 2023.
